Getting Your VIZIO Smart TV Activated

Unboxing a new VIZIO TV is exciting — but before you can start streaming your favorite shows, you need to complete the activation process. This guide walks you through every step, from plugging in the TV to entering your activation code and connecting your account.

What You'll Need Before You Start

  • Your VIZIO Smart TV and remote
  • A stable Wi-Fi connection (or an Ethernet cable)
  • A smartphone, tablet, or computer (for account activation)

Step 1: Connect the TV and Power On

Place your TV, connect the power cable, and press the power button on the remote or the TV itself. The first time you turn on a VIZIO SmartCast TV, it will automatically launch the Setup & Activation Wizard.

Step 2: Select Your Language and Region

Use the arrow keys on your remote to choose your preferred language. Then confirm your country/region. This ensures your TV surfaces the correct apps and content for your location.

Step 3: Connect to Wi-Fi

  1. Select Wireless from the network setup screen.
  2. Your TV will scan for available networks — select yours from the list.
  3. Enter your Wi-Fi password using the on-screen keyboard.
  4. Wait for the connection confirmation message.

Tip: If your router is far away, consider using a 5GHz band for better performance, or connect via Ethernet for the most stable experience.

Step 4: Enter the Activation Code

Once connected to the internet, your TV will display a unique activation code on screen. This code is typically 6–8 characters long. To complete activation:

  1. On your phone or computer, go to vizio.com/activate.
  2. Sign in to your VIZIO account (or create a free one).
  3. Enter the activation code shown on your TV screen.
  4. Click Activate and wait for your TV to confirm.

After activation, SmartCast will load your personalized home screen. You can browse featured apps, adjust your picture settings, and sign into your streaming services right away.

Step 6: Set Up Additional Features (Optional)

  • Voice Control: Link Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant through the SmartCast app.
  • Chromecast Built-In: Open the Google Home app on your phone to set up casting.
  • WatchFree+: VIZIO's free, built-in streaming service is automatically available after activation.

Troubleshooting Activation Issues

If your TV gets stuck during activation or the code doesn't work, try these quick fixes:

  • Restart the TV and re-launch the setup wizard.
